About Wolf Lake Pyro
Wolf Lake Pyro was founded by brothers, Mike and Cal Nevins of Jackson and Hillsdale, who have been what they consider "pyromaniacs" since the early 80s. Today, they are the group most recognized for their annual 4th of July fireworks production. The Nevins brothers have been shooting off 4th of July fireworks at Big Wolf Lake since 2005.
Mike and Cal have been pyrotechnicians and members of Pyrotechnics Guild International (PGI) since 2009. Becoming a pyrotechnicians does not come easy. It requires attending training each year in safety and training courses in addition to passing a 75-question test with 80% accuracy or higher.
"Safety is a huge concern," stated Cal Nevins. "The training courses teach you the DO's and DON'Ts when working with fireworks - how to properly care for and transport them."The benefits of being able to use the land at Camp Teetonkah are two-fold. Watching a fireworks show over the lake is an entirely different experience than watching a show over land. The reflection of the fireworks on the water enhances the overall experience.

Safety is the second major benefit the campsite offers. "It's important that we keep a minimum safety distance of 1,000 feet in the event of premature detonation of a shell," stated Mike Nevins. "Using the camp is essential because we automatically have protection on three sides. The only people we have to worry about are the ones on the lake and we're able to setup far back enough that it isn't a problem."
